Hi, friends and readers:
It’s Thanksgiving and I have much to be grateful for. I have good health and good friends, my writing’s selling, and I live in a beautiful place. What more could a person ask for?
The weather here on the island today is perfect — sunny and dry with a light breeze. Our high temperature today will be around 72 degrees F. I’m always thankful for nice weather!
A good friend ended up in the hospital this summer while I was living in Berlin. He was terribly ill and it’s taken him nearly four months to recover such that he can walk and drive and otherwise live like the rest of us. Today I will celebrate Thanksgiving with him and his siblings and we’ll all give thanks for his restored health.
I’m also thankful for all the comments I have received this year from young gay men around the country, especially the skateboarders who’ve written me and shared their thoughts. So many of these guys feel lonely and isolated and they are frightened of what lies ahead for them in life. To all of them I say: Be true to yourself, be good to yourself. You will find friends and, hopefully, one special person, who will accept you for what you are. There’s happiness to be found out there. Be patient.
To all my friends and readers: Happy Thanksgiving. Enjoy this beautiful day, whether you’re in Florida, California, Afghanistan or Berlin. And take a minute to count your blessings.
