Shirtless young man; sunny day on the island …

Hi, friends and readers:

It’s a beautiful day here on the island — sunny, with a light breeze. The high temperature today will reach 72 degrees. Not too warm, not too cold. At some point ths afternoon I plan to take a walk on the beach and enjoy this lovely weather.

I received a depressing letter from a gay skateboarder in Austin, Texas, a freshman at University of Texas, who did not state his name. He said he stumbled across my blog while surfing the Internet and he was amazed at the number of gay skaters I’d heard from duing the past nine months. He says there’s a sort of “skater clique” at UT and he hangs out with them, “but they are very homphobic. I hear the word ‘faggot’ a lot, and there is NO WAY I would ever come out to these guys. I’d probably get the shit kicked out of me.”

H-m-m-m … That’s kind of sad.

I’ll work on my Maine story this morning, then it’ll be time to seize the paint brush and get to work again. Will this project never end? And, by the way, for some reason the blog’s getting very few visits today. I wonder why? It’s been so busy lately. Maybe everyone’s busy with school and/or work today?

Enjoy your Thursday, everyone.
