If you are a gay man, and you once had the misfortune to live in a sexually repressed environment, then you must see Brokeback Mountain, if you haven’t already. It’s one of my favorite films.
The main characters–Ennis Del Mar and Jack Twist–are played by Jake Gyllenhaal and Heath Ledger (deceased). The film’s based on a story by one of my favorite writers, Annie Proulx. It’s a heartbreaking tale. Jake and Heath displayed major balls when they made this film. Hollywood wimped out when they did not give Brokeback Mountain the “best-picture” Oscar.
You bastards: didn’t you know art when you saw it?
Okay, I’m a bit wired tonight, after a nerve-jangling drive on I-4 — the artery connecting Tampa and Orlando. I hate that road. People drove kamikaze-style. All four lanes were packed with semis and holiday travelers. What fun. My poor Element seemed overwhelmed, but we survived. When I returned home, I took another 1-1/2 mile walk on the beach, around four PM, just to decompress. It was beautiful down there.
I just returned from watching sunset with my good friend and neighbor. I spoke on the phone with my beautiful boyfriend, and now dinner’s warming up in the oven. I’ll spend a quiet night at home, working on edits and listening to music.
Enjoy your Thursday night, friends.
