It’s September and that means it’s football season. High school, college ,and NFL games are on television five days a week. Oh, boy ….
Now, I’m not a huge fan myself. I’ll watch the Florida Gators on Saturday — UF is my undergraduate alma mater — but I’m not one to spend my Sunday glued to the tube, listening to these idiot sportscasters drone on and on about trivia and their view of things should be done. (If they’re so smart, why aren’t they coaching a team?) But my boyfriend loves football, so whenever he has the weekend off, we watch a few games. (Did I say “a few?” I actually meant to say several. Sigh ….)
Have a look at the photo to the left. Now that’s my idea of a nice football viewing experience: hot guy, jockstrap, tall can of Budweiser, and a large screen TV. Hell, if he was hosting, I’d stick around all afternoon.
Okay, football’s not all that serious a topic, but it’s been a pretty heavy week on this site, with all the comments I’ve received about “coming out” and life in the closet. I can honestly say I am a little depressed at the misery some gay men go through in dealing with their sexuality. It saddens me that, in 2013, gay men still must struggle for acceptance by their friends and family. It shouldn’t be this way.
I’ve had a busy day. I bought lunches from Panera bread, and then I brought them to a hospital, to share the meal with a dear old friend who’s in bad shape right now. We roomed together when I attended law school at FSU. He seemed to enjoy the company and the food. I hit the driving range afterward, to test my swing and practice my putting. Then I hit the gas station and supermarket. I spent 90 minutes working on one of my old NRP titles I will re-publish soon via Amazon’s Createspace program; it’s coming along nicely.
Now, my boyfriend’s home and I’m about to grill pork chops over charcoal. It’s a pretty night, here on the island, and I’m glad to be here tonight. Wherever you are, I hope you’re enjoying your Sunday evening, football or no football.
