How come I can’t sport a six-pack? Maybe because I’m as old as dirt and my metabolism doesn’t work the way it did when I was twenty. I guess I didn’t realize how gifted I was, physically, when I was a young man.
How is your holiday season going?
Tonight, my boyfriend and I put on our ugly sweaters and Santa caps. Then we distributed baskets of cookies to our neighbors, the cookies we baked on Wednesday. I think it’s important to do these things during the holiday season. People appreciate the effort, I think.
We’re home tonight, after a visit to the YMCA and the golf course. We hit balls for 45 minutes in the most beautiful weather you can imagine. Then we visited the supermarket, where they had Florida lobster tails on sale for six bucks a pound, a total steal.
Okay, we drank a couple of bottles of wine before dinner, and we listened to Christmas music. We dined on lobster and potatoes. It’s beautiful here tonight, about 65 degrees F and still. I love Florida at this time of year.
I still have a bit of Christmas shopping to do, but not much. My list of gift recipients gets smaller each year, but that’s okay. I don’t think gifts are what Christmas is about.
For me, Christmas is about spending time with people I care about. This year, I will spend Christmas Eve with a friend who’s living in a nursing home. He’s far to young to be there, but he has health issues and I can’t stand the thought of him spending Christmas Eve alone. Look, that’s why Christmas exists, in my book. You do your best for those you love.
Friends, I hope you are having a nice Friday night. Thanks to all of you who visit here each day, and thanks to all of you who purchase my fiction. I’ll keep writing if you’ll keep reading. Good night, all.
