“Bridegroom”, a film every gay man should see ….

bridegroomHi, friends and readers:

Last week, my friend Samuel wrote me about a documentary film titled Bridegroom. I ordered the film from Netflix, and I watched it with my boyfriend Wednesday night. Half way through the film both of us were in tears, and that doesn’t happen very often. Bridegroom is the story of two boys, Shane and Tom, who come from conservative, small towns. Both move to L.A. after high school, and when they meet they very quickly fall in love. That’s Shane and Tom in the two photos I have posted here.

bridegroom #2Bridegroom focuses on the boys’ families as well as Shane and Tom. Shane’s family is accepting of his relationship with Tom, but Tom’s family won’t acknowledge the relationship at all, which leads to a very tragic ending to these guys’ life together. The whole film is both inspiring and troubling, and I think every gay man should see it. You can check it out  here: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt2357788/?ref_=nv_sr_1

It’s another chilly day, here on the island, but the sun is shining and my boyfriend isn’t working today. We’ll hit the YMCA after lunch, for a workout and lap-swimming. I’m not sure what we’ll do with our evening, but we’ll use our new pizza stone to make homemade pizza for dinner tonight. Doesn’t that sound good?

Have a great Friday, everyone.

  1. I just watched the documentary, man that was so heart breaking. It’s one of those pains that hurt so good. Thanks for sharing it, I’m passing it along to my friends right now.

    • Oh and I forgot to add,

Have you ever seen the movie “But I’m a Cheerleader!”

It is on the complete other end of the spectrum, it is a comedy about a teen whose family sends her away to a reparitive therapy institution to deal with her homosexuality. It’s a feel good movie and very enjoyable.

      • Hi, Jared:

I’m glad you enjoyed “Bridegroom” as much as I did. I felt so happy for the love between Shane and Tom, and so angry for the way things ended. I did see “But I’m a Cheerleader” a few years back. Thanks for writing.

  2. Thanks for watching and sharing this Martin! It really is very touching. what breaks my heart the most is seeing them SO HAPPY in every single picture and video, and now that will never be again. But the movie is quite fantastic.
