Yes, I am alive and well, albeit travel-stained after spending three days on the road, returning from Door County, Wisconsin. It’s already eight PM, so I am going to keep this post relatively short.
Sorry I didn’t post from Wisconsin, but we stayed in a very remote area where neither Internet nor cell phone services were available. In a way, I kind of liked our isolation. The weather was perfect while we were up there, so we focused on outdoor activities every day: hiking, cycling, boating, and golfing.
If you have never visited northern Wisconsin, you don’t know what you are missing. The forests are beautiful, and so are the lakes and bays. Deer walked through our yard some mornings. The people are very friendly to outsiders, and the local beers are among the best I have tasted outside of Germany. They have some cute boys there, too, if you look hard enough.
We spent last night in the Virginia Highlands district of Atlanta, an old neighborhood dating back to the 1920’s where many young professionals live. We stayed in a funky old hotel, grabbed a drink at a trendy bar, and then dined on Thai cuisine that was some of the best I’ve ever tasted. Today’s drive lasted 8-1/2 hours, but we took turns at the wheel and the time flew by.
Now we’re home and it feels so good to return to the little island we love. We hit the supermarket on the way home, and in just a few minutes I’ll bake fresh fish for our dinner. We’ve already unpacked, so things are back to normal. Thanks to everyone who kept stopping by during my absence. Have a nice Thursday evening, wherever you are.
