Having a best friend is one of life’s finest gifts ….

best friends #4Hi, friends and readers:

When I’m out in public, be it at the beach or a golf course, or a shopping mall, I’ll often see pairs of guys, and I can tell right away they’re best friends. I don’t mean they are gay; they’re just close friends. Particularly with younger guys, best friends tend to dress similarly, like the guys in today’s photo posts, and that’s okay. Best friends tend to think alike, and they share many common interests.

In my teenage years, my best friend was named Curtis; we did everything together: going to the beach, bowling, surfing, and attending after-school events. We were inseparable, but our friendship was not sexual in any sense. After high school,we attended the same university and for two years we shared an apartment near campus. Then Curtis got married and moved to Miami. I didn’t see much of him thereafter, but I have always been grateful for those years we shared our daily lives together.

best friends #6In my view, a best friend is one of the greatest gifts life can give you. He is someone you can share your deepest secrets and fears with because you know he’ll keep whatever you tell him private. He’l stick up for you if someone tries to bully you, and he’ll even give you a silly gift on your birthday. A best friend will never make fun of you, except in jest, and he’ll know what topics you don’t choose to discuss unless you bring it up yourself first.

Besides Curtis, I’ve had a couple of other best friends in my life, and I feel so fortunate to have known them. Sadly, I lost a best friend earlier this year; he died at a relatively young age because he didn’t take care of his health. His passing was a bitter pill to swallow, but at least I shared some of the greatest experiences of my life with him.

It’s another steamy day, here on the island. At 7:30 AM I took my three-mile walk on the beach, followed by a dip in the Gulf. I spent my morning working on my new novel, and now it’s almost lunch time. After lunch, I’ll visit the YMCA for a workout and lap-swimming. Not a bad way to spend a day, eh?

Have a nice Wednesday, everyone.
