It’s a shame how American males are too modest to wear Speedo-style swimsuits. Instead they wear boardshorts or other types of baggy trunks. I mean, look at this guy to the left. Doesn’t his suit look great on him?
This weekend is Gay Pride Weekend, at least in our area, and tomorrow night there’s a parade in downtown St. Petersburg, where 100,000 people are expected to attend. And there will be plenty to celebrate after the U.S. Supreme Court ruled that same-sex marriage will now be legal in all fifty states of the union.
Now, if you are a young person, this may not sound like a big deal, but to a gay man my age it is huge. When I was in college and law school, back in the 1970’s, being gay was socially unacceptable to most people. The concept of same-sex marriage was unthinkable. Now, forty years later, it’s the law of the land, and how wonderful that is.
I’ll write more on this topic in a later post, but for right now I’ll just say “hallelujah” as I open a cold beer and make a toast to all my gay and lesbian brothers and sisters. We finally won the fight, didn’t we?
