Way back in 1980 a film titled The Blue Lagoon was released, starring Brooke Shields and Christopher Atkins. That’s Atkins to the left here. And here’s a short description of the film’s plot.
“In the Victorian period, two children are shipwrecked on a tropical island in the South Pacific. With no adults to guide them, the two make a simple life together, unaware that sexual maturity will eventually intervene.”
I was in San Francisco shortly after The Blue Lagoon was released. I was in a gay bookstore there, and found a post card with the above photo on the front of it. I bought the post card and thumb-tacked it to the wall above my desk when I returned to Florida, where it remained for years. At the time I thought Atkins was one of the most beautiful guys alive, and I still feel that way. 🙂
I slept until nine this morning, so I skipped my morning beach walk and got right to work on first edits of a novel I have coming out in September. I worked for 2-1/2 hours and got about one-third of the way through the edits. Now it’s 11:30 AM and almost time for lunch.
By the way, how would you like to be stranded on a tropical island with Chris Atkins. Hey, if I were there I’d even sew his loin cloths for free. Yummy!
I don’t have a lot planned for my afternoon, other than cleaning my bathrooms and kitchen, and taking a two-mile run around four PM. Tonight I’ll drive into the city to spend the evening with an old friend I see every Thursday. It’s a ritual we both enjoy. Have a nice day friends. Keep smiling. 🙂
