Hi, friends and readers:
I just returned from a trip to Tampa’s airport, doing a favor for friends, and a comment awaited me from a young man named Zack, a gay skater from Orlando who recently came out to everyone he knows via Facebook. (Now that takes some courage.) Zack is sixteen. He says, “The reactions to me being queer have been mixed, especially among my skater friends. Some dudes are fine with it, but a couple of guys who I thought were my buds sent me nasty remarks. One dude called me a ‘faggot’ and a ‘pussy.’ Maybe I made a mistake doing things the way I did. I don’t know, but it’s too late now. Anyway, I feel better now that I’ve done it. My friends, my family, and everyone else knows I’m queer. Now I don’t have to pretend, and I like it.”
I’m proud of you Zack.
It’s cold on the island tonight; I think the temperature will dip into the high 40s tonight — chilly for central Florida. I’m staying home and eating leftover paella from Christmas Eve. (Yum-m-m-m …)
Have a nice Saturday night, all.
