Hi, friends and readers:
A high school wrestler from South Dakota, Luke, wrote me today. He did not say which town he lives in, but it sounds like he’s in a rural area. He says, “I started wrestling when I was eight and I have competed ever since. When I was fourteen I realized I was gay. I mean, I like guys A LOT. This is my third year of wrestling for my high school. My weight class this year is 152 pounds. Last year I went to Districts for my school. Now, I’ll be honest, it’s kind of exciting being in a locker room with a bunch of naked guys, but I NEVER think about sex when I’m on the mat, no way. I’m concentrating on winning. So, nobody needs to worry about me grabbing their junk during a match.”
He also says, “I have not told ANYONE I am gay. It’s just not accepted in the community I live in, especially by guys who wrestle.”
Luke’s comments were pretty lengthy. That’s just an excerpt I posted here. He’s a thoughtful, honest young man. Good luck on the mat this season, Luke.
It’s cold and damp on the island this evening, really nasty. I’ll stay home and make a baked ziti dish I really like. Have a nice Monday evening, all.
