I’m up early on Sunday morning. It’s beautiful here in Berlin today — cool and sunny.
A friend sent me the photo I’ve posted here this morning. I think it’s rather special. Certain boys that age have an androgynous look to them. It only lasts a year or two before they mature. You see them all the time here in Berlin, on the streets and the subway. I guess you see them in Texas, too?
Last night my host and our out-of-town guest enjoyed a few drinks before visiting a Greek restaurant for a nice meal. Afterward we attended a university student party in the Wedding district of Berlin. These young people were so pleasant and they went out of their way to make me feel at ease. Most were students of physics, a subject I don’t really understand. But most discussions were about music, travel, and friendships. The host offered beer and food and the music was good. It was a nice time. Everyone got along well and there were many laughs. I don’t know why Germans have a reputation in the U. S. as being rigid, humorless people. Nothing could be further from the truth.
After the party I walked our out-of-town guest to his hotel. The streets were still crowded. The air was chilly — about 60 degrees I would say. All sorts of fast food shops were open, offering everything from Asian food to Turkish cuisine. I was tempted, but did not succumb. That sort of food is not good for me. So, I waited till I returned home and fixed myself a healthy snack, washed down by a Beck’s beer. A-h-h-h …
Other than writing, I have no plans for the day. My host and I will likely take a long walk in the park, perhaps take in a museum. There’s always something interesting to do in this great city of Berlin.
Have a nice Sunday, everyone.
