I’ve never attended a diving competition, but the photo I’ve posted here this morning makes me think I should go to one. Aye-yi-yi, what beautiful guys.
A comment I received yesterday from a competitive diver, Michael, prompted me to post the photo. Michael said this:
“I’ve followed your old blog and now your website for over a year. Why don’t you ever post comments from gay men who dive? You’d be surprised how many gay men are part of the sport. I started diving when I was quite young, my dad was my first coach. I dove for my high school and now I dive for my university. There are two openly gay team members besides myself, another diver, and a swimmer. Nobody gives us any crap about being gay. We’re just accepted. I’m curious if you’ve heard from other gay divers besides me.”
Michael, I’ve heard from many gay swimmers, but never from a diver. It’s cool that your team members are accepting. I wish it were that way in all sports, and at all schools. Thanks for writing.
I’m back from my morning walk on the beach. Tropical Storm Debby eroded maybe half the beach between the dunes and the Gulf, but otherwise, things are fine. The eroded sand hasn’t disappeared; it’s right off shore, and it will return. The dunes did their job, holding themselves together. The water was cloudy because it’s full of silt washed into the Gulf from our swollen rivers. Things will settle down and return to normal, in few weeks.
Have a nice Thursday, everyone.
