Thirteen years have passed since the film Brokeback Mountain was released, and it is still my favorite gay-themed film. Okay, Call Me By Your Name was pretty damned good, but you can’t beat the chemistry between Heath Ledger and Jake Gyllenhaal in Brokeback. I remember reading an interview with Jake and Heath at the time the film came out. Both said they were comfortable portraying gay men because, in Heath’s case, he had a gay uncle he was close to, while Jake’s godparents were a gay couple. Cool, eh?
I stayed up late last night, doing a bit of partying after taking a pleasant moonlit swim at my timeshare. I slept until ten AM this morning, as a result. But I am feeling great and ready for my European adventure. I’ll be gone for three weeks, and my trip will include a visit to Venice, Italy, a place I have always wanted to see. I’ll spend time with two of my closest friends, and see many places I have never been to. What more could I ask for? Anyway, I need to get packing, so I will close this post by asking all of you to bear with my absence during the coming weeks. I will post regularly on this site, beginning September 2nd. Until then, I wish all of you a pleasant August. And keep smiling, it’s important. 🙂
The photos I’m posting here this morning take me back to my teenage years, when I lived in a beach community. A boy my age named Curtis lived only a few blocks from me, and we became best friends, from middle school all the way through college. During summers, before we both landed jobs, we had no money and lots of time to kill. So we’d roam the beach, or “pool hop” at nearby motels. We’d investigate alleys and befriend stray animals. It probably seemed boring to us back then, but it really wasn’t. Life just moved at a slower pace.
Curtis is married now and lives near Ft. Lauderdale, but more than fifty years since we became best friends, we still stay in touch. In fact, I joined Curtis and his wife at their North Carolina vacation home last October, to spend several nights enjoying the cool weather, and dredging up old memories.
I think everyone in their teens deserves a best friend to share life with. The two of you share secrets you wouldn’t tell anyone else. And you share your sorrows too. A best friend is a special gift.
Speaking of friends, I spent yesterday evening with one my closest friends whom I have known since grade school. He struggles with mental illness and doesn’t get out much, so at least once a week I pay him a visit. We drink a few beers and order takeout for our dinner since he doesn’t like crowded restaurants.
I’ll devote today to final preparations for my three-week visit to Europe. I’ll water house and patio plants. I need to book a taxi ride to the airport. I’ll do my final packing and make sure everything’s ready to go when the taxi arrives tomorrow afternoon. I feel a bit OCD about how much time I’m giving myself to prepare, but I did this when I prepared for my Iceland trip and everything went off without a hitch. Hopefully, the same will hold true for my Europe excursion.
All right, everyone, tomorrow I will post once more before I depart, and then you won’t hear from me until September 2nd. Have a nice Wednesday, and keep smiling.
Here in Florida, we love our swimming pools. They offer such pleasant relief from the summer heat, both during the day and at night. And sometimes you can see the most amazing sites in hotel or apartment complex pools, like the guys in today’s photo posts. Yummy …. 😉
I woke quite early this morning, and after a quick breakfast I poured myself a cup of coffee and hit the keyboard to write new material for my novel-in-progress. I spent about two hours writing fresh pages, and now I’m done writing for the day. I always feel good when I churn out some quality material. 🙂
Now it’s close to eleven AM, and I have much to do, once I complete this post. On Thursday, I will board a nonstop flight to Frankfurt, Germany, where I will spend several days with a good friend, just relaxing and seeing the sights.
Then I’ll travel to Cologne to stay with another friend. We are taking a driving trip to northern Italy and Austria, places I have never visited before, despite the fact I have been to Europe a dozen times. My friend and I make good traveling companions and I know we’ll have fun.
After our driving tour I will visit other friends in Bremen, Germany for a few days before flying back to the U.S. form Frankfurt. In all I will be gone three weeks, and today I have to start packing for my journey. I always give myself plenty of time to pack to I don’t forget something important that I’ll need over there.
Tonight I’m having dinner with a friend in the city, always an enjoyable experience. Have a nice Tuesday, everyone.
It’s Monday morning, and that’s when I normally like to post some of my favorite black-and-white photos. The two I’m offering here are exceptional, in my view anyway. The young man to the left here has a perfect body, plenty of muscle but not too much, flawless skin and shaggy hair. A pair of black briefs has never looked so good. 😉
Yesterday afternoon I walked three miles on the beach. It was warm down there, but then a breeze kicked up, just as I finished my walk, and then I spent an hour soaking in the Gulf and chatting with my neighbors. Back at the house I shared another hour with another neighbor, then I made a simply dinner for myself. I spent a little time savoring a glass of wine on my back porch, and then I was off to bed.
Oh, I know pay phones are passe, but I absolutely love this second photo. Look at the abs on Mr. Backward Ball Cap. I wonder how many crunches he performs every day to keep them looking so toned?
I rose at a reasonable hour this morning. I did not receive my morning paper so I had to call the newspaper office to gripe. Then I had to call the city because I’m not receiving my reclaimed water service that I pay extra for. What an annoying way to begin my morning. 🙁
Today will be a typical Monday for me. I’ll work on my novel-in-progress for two hours or so. Then, right after lunch, I will drive into the city to visit the YMCA for a workout and lap-swimming
All right, everyone, I need to get busy, so I will close this post by wishing all of you a pleasant Monday, wherever you might be today. Keep smiling. 🙂
There is something terribly sexy about walking into a room where a young man is sleeping and wearing very little or nothing. Guys that age, when they are awake, are careful not to let their guards down. They put up a macho exterior for the world to see. But when they’re asleep that all goes away, and they look so vulnerable as they snooze. I shared a room at my college fraternity house with a handsome guy named John. He was a serial naked nap taker, and I often enjoyed watching him roll around his mattress while he slept. I miss those days …. 😉
I enjoyed a very nice meal with my friend last night and did not get home until well past nine PM. I spent some time chatting online with a friend, and then I listened to music while I lay in my bed reading. I went to sleep around 11:30 PM and didn’t get up this morning until ten.
Now it’s noon and I’ve already solved the L.A. Times crossword puzzle, an especially tough one. I’ve read the newspaper and enjoyed a quick breakfast. Right after lunch I will tackle another portion of my summer painting project. Tonight I’ll spend me evening with a friend who lives down the road. We’re attending a concert at a local bar, and then my friend will grill steaks for us for dinner. It should be fun.
Have a nice Saturday, everyone. And be sure to get plenty of sleep, it’s good for you.
Hi, friends and readers: It’s funny how young men and lakes connect in a very special way, especially when the lake’s in a remote area. Inevitably, the clothes come off and it’s time for some randy business. 😉
The guy to the left here looks like he’s ready to take the lunge in his birthday suit, doesn’t he? I could spend all day romping in the water with him and sunning myself on the deck he’s standing on. How about you?
It’s been a good Friday for me. I was up at a reasonable hour and able to write some significant new material for my novel-in-progress, which is already at 40,000 words. The story is a mix of joy and tragedy in a young man’s life, and I like the way it’s developing. I only hope my publisher will like it as much as I do when it’s finished.
Here’s another lake guy who looks outstanding in his swimsuit, but I’d prefer he toss the suit like the guy in the upper photo. He has such am amazingly lean body I’ll bet would look good with water streaming over it. Yummy ….
After I worte this morning, I visited the YMCA in the city to work out in the fitness center. I had a good workout but wasn’t able to swim laps because the pool was to crowded. Since I had extra time on my hands, I visited my barber for a haircut. I’m leaving for Europe next Thursday for a three-week tour, so I wanted to have my hair looking decent when I go over there.
Now I am home and freshly showered, ready for a nice evening. I’m meeting a friend for dinner at out favorite Italian place tonight, which is always enjoyable. Have a nice Friday night, friends.
Most selfies aren’t very interesting. I don’t care to see your hair care products or your unmade bed, thank you. But occasionally I’ll run across a few that I think are worth sharing, so this morning I am putting up two for your enjoyment. Mr. Ball Cap to the left here certainly fills out those white briefs beautifully, doesn’t he?
I went to bed early last night and ended up sleeping nearly ten hours before I finally got up this morning. I think my visit to the fishing camp really wore me out, so I guess I needed the rest. Anyway, I am up and feeling great. Outside the sun is shining and it’s pretty warm, but that’s okay.
While I was up at the river, I had time to read when the rain was falling hard, and I brought a short novel titled Clay’s Way with me. I had read the book several years ago, and even corresponded with the author. I read the first half of the book again, and really enjoyed it. You can check it out here https://www.amazon.com/Clays-Way-Novel-Blair-Mastbaum/dp/1555838197
Now, have a look at Mr. Bubble Butt to the left here. There’s nothing shy about him, now is there? I like his tousled blond hair and dark brown eyes, but that butt and those thighs are downright amazing. Nice job with the camera, buddy. 😉
I have an easy day ahead of me. Right after I finish this post I will take a three-mile walk on the beach, wearing my swim trunks and my wide-brimmed straw hat for sun protection. I’ll take a swim in the Gulf afterward, and then I have a simple lunch. This afternoon I’ll do some indoor house painting and then around four PM I’ll take a three-mile run.
Since today is Thursday, right around 5:30 PM I will drive into the city to spend the evening with one of my oldest friends. We’ll drink a few beers and swap stories, and then we’ll get some takeout for our dinner. It’s a weekly ritual I always enjoy.
The young man you see to the left here is named Kline Barfield. I don’t know a thing about him, other than he’s a fashion model and deliciously handsome. I recently ran across the two photos I’m posting here and I figured you guys would enjoy them as much as I did, so here they are. He makes that white a-shirt look pretty hot, don’t you think?
Well, I am back a day early from my fishing trip. That’s due to the fact that my fishing buddy who went with me got called for an important job interview tomorrow morning, so we cut thing short and came home today.
In spite of rainy weather and the shortened stay at my fishing camp, we had a wonderful time. It’s so pretty up there, and my friend caught a big redfish that he gave to me for my dinner tonight. Yummy ….
Here’s another Kline Barfield photo, this one in color. He has such lovely facial features, especially those lips. Aye-y-yi, they practically beg you to kiss them. 😉
It’s hot here on the island this afternoon, so I am hiding out the the air conditioning. I’ve already put away all the food and gear from the fishing trip, and I took a pleasant warm shower, and I’m just about to crack open a cold beer.
Tonight I’ll catch up on correspondence and make a few phone calls. I’ll cook my redfish and watch MSNBC while I dine in my office-den.
All right, everyone, it’s nice to be home and I wish all of you a wonderful Wednesday. Keep smiling, it’s important.
